Taxable Sales in Nevada Up 3% in December

Posted: Updated:

Taxable sales in Nevada were up 3% in December compared with the same month a year ago.

But the Department of Taxation reports Tuesday that general fund revenues from sales tax collections are running 2% or about $9 million below projections made late last year by the Economic Forum.

Still, the report marks the 30th consecutive month of increased sales activity in Nevada in the wake of the recession.

Statewide, merchants sold $4.3 billion in goods, and 8 of Nevada's 17 counties reported higher sales. Increases were noted in the sales of vehicles and parts, bars and restaurants, accommodations and clothing and accessories.

Clark County in southern Nevada saw taxable sales rise 6%. But sales in Washoe County fell nearly 5% in December.
