A man will face prison time after he was convicted in a fatal accident involving a pedestrian late last year.
21-year old Cesar Bernal-Cuadra was sentenced to 16-years behind bars. He will be eligible for parole after 43 months.
He was convicted of a December 6th, 2012 fatal pedestrian accident that killed 63-year old Charles Heinemann of California. Heinemann was crossing the street legally in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of 8th and Virginia streets when he was struck by Bernal-Cuadra.
Bernal-Cuadra's girlfriend and infant child were passengers in the car at the time of the accident.
Blood and urine tests after the crash showed Bernal-Cuadra had an illegal amount of marijuana in his system. He also had a prior DUI conviction stemming from a May 2010 arrest. This prior case also involved marijuana.
