Discovery Museum Closed Today-Thursday for Cleaning

Posted: Updated:

The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum (The Discovery) will be closed to the public from Tuesday, February 26th through Thursday, February 28th for cleaning and routine maintenance of exhibits and the facility. The Discovery will reopen to the public on Friday, March 1st at 10:00 am.

"Wear and tear on exhibits in a hands-on museum like The Discovery is high," said Patrick Turner, marketing & PR manager. "In order to keep everything in perfect working order and make sure the museum is as clean as possible, we schedule two short ‘dark periods' throughout the year."

When The Discovery reopens on March 1st, normal operations will resume with an impressive selection of classes and series, including:

Sensory Science Series
Saturdays, March 2–23 · 10:15–11:00 am
In this series designed for children age 3-5, your child will become a scientist and use his/her senses of sight, smell, touch, taste and sound to explore the world around them through sensory-rich observation and hands-on exploration. Get ready to learn, explore, have fun and get messy!
Cost: $40 members, $60 nonmembers

Discovery Choice Awards
Saturdays, March 2–23 · 3:00–4:30 pm or Wednesdays, March 6–27 · 5:30–7:00pm
In this four-class series, you'll create your very own movie! Using an iPad and iMovie software, you'll shoot, edit and then premiere your movie. The winner of The Discovery's Choice Award will win a special prize. Recommended for children age 8 and up.
Cost: $40 members, $60 nonmembers

The World of Seuss
Saturdays, March 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd · 1:00–1:45pm
In celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday, join us for a reading of "Horton Hatches an Egg" and then learn about elephants, incubation and create your own vessel to keep an egg safe for a drop off the museum's balcony. Recommend for children age 6 and up.
Cost: $3 members, $5 nonmembers
