Nevada Online Gambling Bill Heading to Assembly

Posted: Updated:

A bill that would allow Nevada to get into the interstate online gambling business is sailing through the statehouse.

The Assembly Judiciary Committee approved Assembly Bill 114 unanimously Thursday after hearing testimony at a joint meeting.

Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval spoke before the committee, and urged a speedy passage. A similar internet gambling bill is pending in New Jersey, and Sandoval stressed the importance of passing legislation in Nevada first.

He resolved a disagreement with the bill's sponsor over the licensing fee the state will charge, settling at $500,000. Assembly Majority Leader William Horne had wanted to charge $1 million.

Asked about potential conflict with federal law, Sandoval said he was confident the state was in good standing.

The full Assembly was expected to take up the bill Thursday afternoon.  (AP)
