As Washoe County schools and families prepare for the 2013-2014 school year, the District is again using a convenient online system where parents can register each of their children for school. This is the second year the online registration system will be used.
"One of the great advantages of the online registration system is that parents can register all of their children at one location," said D'Lisa Crain, who leads the District's Department of Family-School Partnerships. "In the past, they had to visit each school to register. The system is also open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is accessed through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, which many of our parents already use."
The online registration system is available to parents who are registering existing WCSD students for the next grade, students who are new to the District, or students who have not yet attended school. Additional documentation may be needed in certain instances to finish the registration process. If parents have forgotten their user names or passwords, they can contact their child's school to get that information.
Dates and times for registration are determined by individual schools. Schools will notify parents when it is time to register their students. Parents who do not have access to the Internet through a home computer can use computers at their child's school or at public libraries, and assistance will be offered by school staff.
"The online registration system was launched last year and was a tremendous success," said WCSD Senior Director Bryn Lapenta. "This is part of our continuing effort to improve customer service and increase efficiency of Washoe County School District. The online registration program is a timesaver for our parents and saves the District more than $100,000 in paper costs each year."
