Traffic Control Begins Thursday for Southeast Connector Phase 1
Traffic control for the RTC SouthEast Connector project Phase 1 begins on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at the intersection of Greg Street and Sparks Blvd. Kiewit Construction will be improving the intersection by widening Sparks Blvd. and Greg Street to accommodate access to and from the new roadway. This traffic control will result in lane reductions for the safety of motorists and construction crews. Motorists are encouraged to use McCarran Blvd. and Vista Blvd. to access Greg Street. Business and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Work at the intersection is anticipated to last approximately six months.
These improvements are needed to construct the Truckee River Bridge and roadway from Sparks Blvd. and Greg Street to just south of Clean Water Way. Actual construction of the bridge foundation and drill shafts will start in March 2013. Completion of the bridge is estimated in spring 2014. On-going updates will be communicated to the public as various stages of construction occur. Construction on the remaining 4.5 miles of the SouthEast Connector roadway is anticipated to begin in 2014 to connect the roadway south to Veterans Parkway. When completed, the SouthEast Connector roadway will be dedicated as Veterans Parkway, estimated completion by 2016.
