Sparks Police Investigate Shooting At Apartment Complex

Posted: Updated:

Sparks Police are looking into a shooting Sunday morning.

Sparks Police say it happened around 8 a.m. at an apartment complex on the 5300 block of Los Altos Parkway.

When officers arrived on scene, they learned a resident of the complex walked out of his garage when the unidentified suspect, who he knew, tried to run him over with a vehicle.

Police say the resident then took out a gun he carried for protection. The driver also pulled out a gun and they fired about 20 shots collectively at each other. The driver of the vehicle was struck in the chest, while the resident wasn't injured.

Police say the resident then ran up a hill near the apartments to escape from the driver who followed him briefly. The suspect later got back into his vehicle and drove to the VA Hospital in Reno to seek treatment for what appear to be non-life threatening injuries. He was then taken to Renown Regional Medical Center for more treatment. Police say no arrests have been made at this time as they continue to investigate.

Police learned the two men had prior altercations, and the resident of the apartment complex got a court order, requiring the suspect to not have any more contact with him.

If you have any information on this case, you're being asked to call Sparks Police at (775) 353-2225 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900. You can also text your tip to 847-411.
