Nevada Legislature Ponders Best Gun Policy for Ill

Posted: Updated:

Nevada legislators are working to develop sound gun policy this session as gun violence continues to dominate headlines.

The Senate Committee on Health and Human Services heard from a panel of experts Thursday on the relationship between mental illness and gun violence.

Administrator Richard Whitley of the Nevada State Health Division says there is no single approach to dealing with the issue, but rather a need for policy affecting the people, the guns and culture.

Bunchie Tyler of the National Alliance on Mental Illness says mental illness is a lifelong condition, and those dealing with it should not be allowed to own firearms.
