Places 2 Check Out: Twisted Fork

Posted: Updated:

For years, thousands of people have driven past the now closed Bully's in south Reno and wondered if anything else would go in. And then a new sign showed signs of life. And within days of its opening, people were seeing 45 minute waits on weekend nights. Yes, the Twisted Fork is exactly what south Reno was waiting for. Joe Clements is the manager. "We went with Twisted Fork because we didn't want to be cornered on what we could do. The idea that we could be twisted, not get pigeon holed in anyway. So we can do anything that we wanted."

And they are certainly doing that in the kitchen. Take for example the tiger shrimp tamal. It's a sweet corn tamal with garlic cream sauce and cilantro pesto. The kurobuta pork tacos are marinated in orange chili and come with cipollini onions and pineapple. The yellow tuna tartar comes with a habanero-mango yolk to make it rich and creamy. And the risotto crab croquettes are topped with sweet corn relish.

Needless to say their menu is all over the map. Even they have a hard time explaining it. "To be honest, we've had a bit of a hard time with it. We call it California cuisine with a Latin influence. Nice place where you can sit down and get steak or fish for lunch. Moderately priced, sandwiches, burger, salads."

Speaking of lunch, there's a private room perfect for lunch meetings or even a cozy gathering in the evenings.  The bar has a sports bar feel with large screen TV's. But it's enclosed, giving the main dining room a unique feel all it's own. "We wanted it to be cozy. We wanted it to be trendy and we wanted it to be something people hadn't seen. We wanted to be different."

And when the weather allows, this patio will add 60 more seats and have a BBQ and wine bar. A lot to look forward to but the Twisted Fork is already a south Reno hotspot.

For more information call 775-853-6033. The Twisted Fork is located at 1191 Steamboat Parkway in the same parking lot as RC Willey.
