In the attic of a big house, at the top of a high hill in Sparks, a budding local pop artist is recording track-after-track in a homemade studio. It's actually been a dream of his for a long time.
"When I was 10, I had a dream that I wanted to be a rapper. I used to make stuff up and try and get kids on the playground to listen to me. I've let it all evolve and now, I'm into pop music and I am writing and recording my own. "
Levi Maddox is just 23 years old and is well on his way to realizing his dream. This isn't his first release, but he's hoping it will be one that makes a difference. He does it all himself.
"I set it up here," he says using a computer keyboard and two editing screens. "Then, I jump over here and sing a track," he says as he bolts to a nearby microphone. "And then, I mix it until I get it right."
His latest release is called Everyday Valentine. He released the song on YouTube a few weeks ago, and this week, he decided it needed a music video to go with it. So, he and two friends made one, on the University of Nevada campus this week.
"It was a quick idea and we shot it in one day," Maddox says. "We took roses and teddy bears and balloons and handed them out to random people just to make their day."
And it's being watched.
"It dropped onto YouTube last night and this morning when I checked, it had, like, 250 hits and that is phenomenal to me!"
