AP: Steven Brooks Saga Prompts Letter From OSHA

Posted: Updated:

A state agency that regulates workplace safety says embattled Assemblyman Steven Brooks could be a hazard in the Nevada Legislature.

A letter from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to legislative staff says the agency received a complaint of an "unstable and dangerous employee." It asked how legislative officials were handling the situation to ensure a "workplace free of recognized hazards."

In a written response dated Monday, the head of the Legislative Counsel Bureau said police security was beefed up, and panic alarm buttons were installed at some employees' desks.

The letters were exchanged before a select committee appointed to consider whether Brooks is fit to serve in the Legislature banned him from the building Monday.

Since mid-January, Brooks has been arrested twice and hospitalized for a mental evaluation. (AP)
