Police: 16-Year-Old Dead, 18-Year-Old Hurt in Reno Shooting

Posted: Updated:

Reno police say a 16-year-old male is dead, and an 18-year-old man suffered non-life threatening after a shooting Friday afternoon near Locust Street and Capitol Hill Avenue.

Witnesses told police they heard two males arguing in the street before the shots were fired about 2pm. It's still not clear yet if the two knew each other.

Witnesses also told police after the shooting - a car took off. "Right now the only lead that we have is we're looking for a small black car possibly a Nissan or an Audi that sped off from the scene after the shooting," says Lt. Joe Burfield.

Neighbors weren't willing to speak with us on camera, but police say they are cooperating with the investigation.

"We have several witnesses that have gone down to the police department to give statements, so good cooperation from those that have anything to report."

As a precaution, the Washoe County School District temporarily placed Veterans Elementary and Vaughn Middle Schools on precautionary lockdowns.

If you have any information on this case, call Secret Witness at 322-4900 or text your tip to 847411. Your call will remain anonymous. A $2,500 reward is being offered.
