Murderer Attends Parole Hearing; Board Decision Expected Soon

Posted: Updated:

The family of Susan Figeley-Macias spoke at the parole hearing of the man convicted of killing her on Thursday morning.

"Please do not grant parole for Simon Macias for the sake of my family, families in Mexico or anyone who he comes in contact with," says niece Nicole Figeley.

Today was Simon Macias' seventh time being up for parole for the murder of his wife - near Las Vegas 20 years ago.

He appeared via video uplink from Carson City and told the parole board he has learned to control his anger while in prison and says he won't hurt anyone again because he's changed.

His mother also spoke on his behalf.

"We are really sorry, all my family. He don't have more 20 years in the jail. He all the time say I am sorry we say the same thing," says Carol Nicoletti.

But Susan's family says they don't believe a word that Macias or his family say.

They believe if he is released he will hurt more people.

"He's just playing the system, he just shows you all this paperwork so it makes you look good but you know what I believe that if he's released he' s going to go back to what he was and he's not going to change."

The parole board will decide whether to release Macias within a few weeks.

We'll be sure to keep you updated.
