Northern Nevada is remembering a lost local resident, but this one is of the four-legged variety.
"Stewie," the World's Longest Cat, lost his battle with cancer Monday night, right here in Reno.
You'll remember, Guinness World Records declared Stewie the record-holder for the World's Longest Cat, back in August 2010. He measured 48.5 inches from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail.
Stewie's owner stopped by Channel 2 News to talk about her furry companion's life.
"He loved to meet new people, he loved to go places, he loved to ride in the car; that was one of his favorite things and so he got his last car ride last night," Hendrickson says.
Stewie was diagnosed with cancer around this time last year. Hendrickson says at first, Stewie's treatment worked really well, and he was able to make several public appearances. But after a brief remission, Stewie's cancer returned aggressively.
He died peacefully on February 4th, 2013.
Hendrickson tells us Stewie wasn't just a Guinness World Record holder; he was also a certified therapy cat.
"Just watching the amazement, the way that people's eyes would just light up when he was with them (pause) just amazing, patience that never spoke, spoke for Stewie," Hendrickson says.
Hendrickson wants to thank all of Stewie's supporters and fans.
Stewie, the World's Longest Cat, was eight years old.
