Nevada Assemblyman Brooks Won't Take Leave After All

Posted: Updated:

Troubled Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks has pulled out of an agreement to take medical leave following his arrest for allegedly threatening the Assembly speaker and a subsequent hospitalization for a mental evaluation.

Assembly Democratic leaders announced Brooks' change of heart at a news conference Tuesday after Brooks refused to sign an agreement to take an extended leave.

Assembly Majority Leader William Horne says Brooks indicated he is well enough to serve in the Legislature and plans to do so.

Horne and Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick say Brooks will be expected to fulfill his legislative duties.

The Assembly will move ahead with plans to appoint a select committee to investigate Brooks' behavior and recommend whether any action should be taken against him, including possible expulsion. (AP)
