49ers Fans Watch Super Bowl Across Town

Posted: Updated:

It was a little unusual to see so much red on the University of Nevada campus.

Wolf Pack fans typically don't like to see UNLV colors on their home turf.

They let it slide this time though, because these fans were here to cheer on the San Francisco 49ers and University of Nevada graduate Colin Kaepernick.

"We are very proud of Colin Kaepernick and we wanted to support him in his first Super Bowl," says Susan Pellerin.

The Cantina Del Lobo was packed with 49ers fans of all ages. Nevada students say they're here because of Kap.

"Being able to kind of have a connection to somebody whose actually in the Super Bowl right now is pretty amazing," says Cassondra Pellerin.

In fact, there were so many Kap fans, there was an overflow room for students who couldn't fit inside the Cantina. A quiet room by halftime though, with the 49ers down 21-6.

"If it was a closer game, it would be more hype I think," says Charles Bernardino. "But I think right now everyone is hoping for the best for the 49ers."

During the halftime show, we made our way downtown to the Silver Legacy for its Big Game Party. It was filled with 49ers fans as well.

And by the third quarter, San Francisco had turned it into a good game. Heading in the fourth quarter, the 49ers were only down five points.

"The 49ers are well known to come back in the 2nd half, so I've still got a lot of hope, a lot of hope," says Greg Andrew.

Fans were back into the game by the fourth quarter, jumping on tables and cheering on the red and gold. But when the game ended, it was Ravens fans cheering and celebrating a victory.

"It's exhilarating, and scary, and on and off and on and off just every emotion," says Kelly Popp. "It was great. And I love the 49ers, I do. But I have to support the team."
