Super Bowl Fans Stocking Up For Today

Posted: Updated:

Kick off to Super Bowl XLVII between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers is just hours away.

The players are gearing up for the big game, and so are the fans who stocked up on all the essentials Saturday.

Penny Getts is heading to her daughter's house to watch the game.

"I know somebody's bringing wings, and my daughter makes this stuffed garlic bread," she says.

Penny and her family celebrate the big game every year. On Saturday, she busted out the shopping list and made her way through the lanes at Save Mart.

"We're doing little smokies in barbeque sauce, and then I make these pizza pieces," she says.

Save Mart has been slammed the last few days with shoppers just like Penny. Most of them are 49ers fans.

"We're just kind of ramping up and we love that," says employee Leo Ouellette. "We got extra help in to help make it a successful Super Bowl for people."

We followed a few customers as they filled their carts. All kinds of items disappeared off the shelves. These days, most football fans turn the big game into a full blown feast.

"We're getting shrimp," says Karen Ewing. "We're getting stuff for nachos, we're going to have chicken wings. Of course, beverages."

It's easy to underestimate how much some people can actually eat. Larry Dunn's guests should be happy campers on Sunday. He's feeding them rack of lamb and chili.

"I don't think the Super Bowl is a football game," says Dunn. "I think the Super Bowl is an event. And so, it's an event at our house too."

An event that's certainly not cheap.

"I can't picture anyone spending less than $150 to $200 on a Super Bowl," says Dunn. "And, that's a fixed dinner at home."

Super Bowl Sunday is the second biggest day for calorie consumption in the United States following Thanksgiving.
