Places 2 Check Out: Spitfire Pub & Grille

Posted: Updated:

The spitfire is a World War II British fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force, its allies and group squadron leader, Dunham Seaton. "My dad was a spitfire pilot during World War II and he's still with us today at the age of 91," says Dunham's son Rob Seaton.

In honor of his dad, and all members of the military, Rob opened Spitfire Pub and Grille near the corner of McCarran and Longley. "We're a true British pub. We serve upscale British pub food and our prices are reasonable."

Rob even found a British cook to make specialities like bangers and mash, which he serves with a side of mushy peas. "A lot of people eat it and say why would you put guacamole with fish and chips but it's mushy peas."

The British dip comes with beef gravy dipping sauce. And of course the London favorite of fish and chips is becoming a Reno favorite.

Chef David Lee-Sang says his fish batter is light and crispy and his chips are cooked three times so their creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. And he should know the best way, he's cooked for the Queen of England.

They also like to have a little fun at Spitfire by offering chocolate covered bacon. They regularly have live music. And there are lots of games for the kids, like shuffle board and the Seatons know the restaurant business. They owned Porky's on Mira Loma for 19 years. And they're excited to call this new location home. "This part of town has very little food wise to offer families and I think we will find out niche and do very well.

Spitfire is open from 7am to 10pm daily.  The bar stays open until 11pm.  For more information, go online to www.spitfirereno.com
