Reno Officers Teach Young Students About Crossing Streets

Posted: Updated:

Young students got to learn about the importance of crossing the street safely.

"What's the first thing we're going to so, we're going to look left!"

Today police taught kindergardeners at Echo Loder Elementary how to stop, look and listen to make sure they avoid getting hurt crossing the street.

Officers say the number of pedestrian-related accidents in Reno have been on the rise in recent years and they're hoping to lower that with education.

"We're trying to combat that problem, and this is one way we're doing it is by educating young kids cause no one wants to see a young kid get hurt," says Reno Sgt. Joe Robinson.

After learning how to cross the street the students got to play on police equipment.

Today's training was made possible by a grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.
