Assembly Leaders: Session Will Focus on Business

Posted: Updated:

Democratic Nevada Assembly leaders say it will be business as usual when the 2013 legislative session opens Monday, whether or not Assemblyman Steven Brooks is in attendance.

In a statement issued Tuesday, leadership said the situation involving Brooks is fluid and the caucus respects his need for privacy and care.

Brooks was hospitalized Friday for a mental evaluation after an incident at his grandmother's house. It capped a bizarre week that started with his arrest for allegedly threatening the incoming Assembly speaker, who is a fellow Democrat.

Democratic leaders say opening day will be marked with ceremony and set a tone of hard work. They add they will ensure that all lawmakers, staff and guests will feel safe while in the Legislature Building.  (AP)
