LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Las Vegas police say a state lawmaker who had been accused of threatening a state Democratic Assembly leader was hospitalized for a medical evaluation after a family domestic disturbance at his grandmother's home.

Police say Assemblyman Steven Brooks exhibited "erratic behavior" after police were called after 1 p.m. Friday.

He wasn't arrested, but was turned over to medical personnel who took him to a hospital.

Police say that was "to prevent harm to himself or others."

The development is the latest twist in a story stemming from allegations Brooks threatened incoming Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick last Saturday.

His lawyer, Mitchell Posin, says the evaluation could be helpful.

Posin says he's not sure whether Brooks' hospitalization means he'll be able to make a court appearance Monday on the threat charge.
