Unprecedented Number of Businesses Considering Move to Nevada

Posted: Updated:

The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, also known as EDAWN, recruits companies to move or expand to the Reno-Sparks Tahoe area.

That's been tough the past few years, but the group says more and more companies are now considering our area.

Mike Kazmierski is the president and CEO of EDAWN. He said they are about to break the record for most visits by prospective businesses in a month with twelve. He told us last year, they were averaging three visits a month.

Kazmierski said visits to the area from prospective businesses were up 85% last year. The group has also seen a 75% increase in hits on EDAWN's website, which shows more business owners are considering Western Nevada as a place to move their company.

He also said last year, EDAWN helped create 1,600 jobs in Western Nevada. Their goal is to create 2,000 jobs this year.

"We've made a much more aggressive move to get on the radar, get involved with site selectors, get our marketing programs out there. We're traveling every couple of weeks, knocking on doors and getting people to look at us and once they look at us, they find we're a great place for business."

Kazmierski says the key is getting business owners to come here and visit. He said when they do, 80% of them choose to expand or move to Western Nevada.
