Carson Deputies Investigating Attempted Burglary

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted residential burglary that happened early Tuesday morning. 

Deputies say they responded to a home in the 4700 block of Old Clear Creek Road, which is located between Carson City and Spooner Summit. The resident there told deputies a man in an orange jumpsuit was on the patio of the house. He said he was a gas utility worker looking for a gas leak in the area. 

The resident was suspicious because there are no gas service lines in the area. The resident armed himself and confronted the suspect as he was getting into a car on the driveway. Then as the suspect drove away, he crashed into the property next door. The resident did fire his weapon but no one was hurt. 

Sheriff's Deputies say after investigating, they learned there were two suspects who both fled into the mountains south of the Clear Creek area. Carson City and Douglas County deputies and the Washoe County Sheriff's Raven Unit searched the area but didn't find either suspect. 

Deputies say the vehicle the suspect drove away in was a black, Jeep Cherokee that had been reported stolen last week. (Photo included in this story)
