Trains Moving Again at site of California Derailment

Posted: Updated:

A Union Pacific Railroad spokesman says trains are running as scheduled again through a section of Northern California where a freight train derailed on Sunday.

Railroad spokesman Aaron Hunt said the cars from the derailed train were removed Monday, allowing other Union Pacific freight trains and Amtrak passenger trains to pass through the Colfax area as usual.

Five cars from a westbound Union Pacific freight train derailed in downtown Colfax on Sunday morning. About 100 homes and businesses were evacuated for much of the day while CalFire officials determined whether a liquid leaking from a toppled tanker was hazardous. It turned out not to be.

A conductor and two railway workers were on the train when it derailed, but none of them were hurt.

Hunt says Union Pacific does not know yet why the train came off the tracks. (AP)
