A fugitive and a woman are behind bars after they allegedly stole a car out of California Wednesday morning.

A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper pulled over a 1997 red Ford Escort station wagon on Interstate 80 in the Fernley area.

The driver, 23-year old Andrew Cook out of Anderson, California, gave the trooper a false name and would not give a driver's license. Cook was then arrested.

The trooper found the vehicle was stolen out of Shasta County. It was also learned that Cook had eight warrants out for arrest in that area. Troopers do not have information on the warrants.

Cook's passenger, 19-year old Amber Cecil was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

They were booked into the Lyon County Jail in Yerington.
