State of the State: Job Growth

Posted: Updated:

During his State of the State address Gov. Sandoval said that Nevada is making progress on his ambition plan to add 50,000 jobs to the state's economy.

And according to the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada this area is actually ahead of schedule on job growth.

"The Governor put 50,000 jobs as the goal. We are about 17% of the state's economy here. So we took out part out of that and we are ahead of schedule for growing this economy," said MIke Kazmierski, CEO of EDAWN.

And he says it's a combination of companies relocating here and expansion that's making the difference. He also says companies are coming here for a variety of reasons.

"Most people think it's the low taxes that bring companies here but it's not. It's, first, the workforce, then the business climate. And then we throw in the quality of life here and how responsive our government is and land them!" Kazmierski says.

Companies like CustomInk agree. CustomInk digitally prints T-shirts and it is a company that's growing.

"We love doing business here," says Lauren Koelemay with CustomInk. "We were looking for a third location for our company and this was it. It's got great people, a great business climate and it's the perfect location for us on the west coast."

And, she says they plan to continue expanding.

"We started eight months ago with 35 people. We currently have 90. And we plan to be at 140 in 6 weeks. We also plan to double production here in the next few years," she says.

And Kazmierski says he too has projects in the pipeline and plans to be able to announce more companies adding more jobs here over the next few weeks.
