Verdi Post Office to Reopen; Service Reinstituted Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

The United States Postal Service is happy to announce that they will reopen the Verdi Post Office for business at 9:30, on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

The office has been suspended since a 2011 Christmas Day fire.  Customers have been served out of the Peavine Station in Reno for mail services. The office serves the residents of Verdi with more than 775 rented Post Office Boxes.

The new retail hours for the office will be 9:30 – 4:30, closed on Saturday. Access to Post Office Boxes will be 24 hours.

If customers haven't received a key, they'll be able to pick one up at the new office next week. They'll need to bring in identification, a current utility bill and fill out a new application since the old ones were destroyed in the fire.

"We appreciate the patience of the people of Verdi," said Postal Spokesman David Rupert. "And we want to acknowledge the hard work of the owners of the building, and the building contractor, Reel Construction, for helping us restore our service to the community."

"The fire destroyed everything, So we are starting from scratch. Pens. Papers. Forms. Equipment," said acting Postmaster Terry James. "But we are working hard to be ready for customers."
