Wesley HampshireEl Dorado County deputies are investigating a homicide that occurred earlier this week near Placerville, California.
Deputies say they got a 911 call Wednesday afternoon about a fight in the area of Brown's and Cold Springs Roads just north of Placerville.
A caller told them someone had been stabbed and was in cardiac arrest, and that the possible suspect had fled.
The victim, 20-year-old Matthew Steele of Auburn, later died at Marshall Hospital.
They say the possible suspect, 18-year-old Wesley Hampshire of Placerville, was later arrested and booked into El Dorado County Jail on one charge of murder.
Deputies say this is an active investigation - and further information will be made available as soon as possible.
