NHP: Several Car Accidents Reported Across Area

Posted: Updated:

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers are reporting several car accidents across Reno.

Troopers reported many accidents near the Spaghetti Bowl, on I-80 near Wells and several near Mt. Rose.

Most likely weather is to blame.

If you must drive anywhere today, slow down. Also, snow and ice make stopping distances much longer, so take your time and give yourself more time to get to your destination.

For the latest road conditions, call 511 or go to http://bit.ly/5Gfv5h

There's no word yet on any injuries.

National Weather Service meteorologists are tracking a lake effect snow band stretching from the southern end of Pyramid Lake to near Fernley.

The following are expected within this band of snow:

  • Moderate to heavy snow with amounts around 1 inch per hour
  • Visibilities reduced to less than one half mile

This band of snow is impacting Highways 446 & 447 and Interstate 80 between Derby Dam and Fernley. Roads will be slick and hazardous due to the accumulation of ice and snow.

Even light amounts snow can create hazardous driving conditions. Travelers should be aware that spots of black ice are possible.

Reno-Tahoe International Airport remains open and operational, but they are expecting winter weather so minor delays may be possible. Contact your airline prior to coming to the airport for the most accurate flight information.
