As our economy continues to recover, we're seeing more franchises coming into Reno, including two that are expected to move into the old "Brew House" on McCarran Blvd. and Kietzke Lane.
We've been following the business expected there for months.
Now we have word that "Five Guys" is hoping to move in by spring.
The burger restaurant is already doing great at another spot in northern Nevada.
In it's fourth week of operation, south of Carson City, "Five Guys" is already catching on with the locals.
"I said 'Hey, there's a new hamburger place up by Walmart. Let's try it out'," Brenda Dahlquist said. "I had to call and tell him exactly where it was but it's really good. So, we're excited for new restaurants. My God, we need them."
"After the first time, I thought 'That burger was pretty good.' I want to try that again and make sure it was not a mistake," Jack Argust said.
Kelley Hicks is the General Manager at the Carson City "Five Guys" and says word of mouth is good news for one of the area's newest franchises.
With six restaurants in Las Vegas, the owners decided to expand into northern Nevada.
"It's definitely a growing area," Hicks said. "This whole section is just expanding like crazy, on this side. It's really great for the economy because things are really starting to pick up over here."
They will be expanding into a vacant Reno building, in the next couple of months.
Final plans for the "Five Guys" restaurant will be finished by the 20th of this month and the owner is hoping building permits will be approved within 30 days.
They could be cooking up burgers and fries by the end of March or early April.
"I think it's really great," Hicks said. "I really think that we're going to be well-recepted over there and I'm really looking forward to the challenge. It's going to be a busy store."
Another burger joint also plans on making Reno the home of one of its restaurants.
Indianapolis-based "Steak 'n Shake" will be adding a restaurant on North Hills, in Golden Valley.
"It's a growing area," Argust said. "There's more opportunities for jobs and all that stuff. I think it will be good."
"It's growing and there are new restaurants coming in," Gene Donner said. "You can go to a new restaurant, practically every day of the week."
We reported back in December of 2011 that "Chipotle Mexican Grill" would be sharing the building with "Five Guys".
We did put a call into the building's owner to confirm that project is still moving forward but haven't heard back.
