State Bill Focuses on Sex Trafficking

Posted: Updated:

Nevada's attorney general is introducing new legislation to combat sex trafficking in the Silver State.

"It talks about increasing penalties to go after not only the perpetrators, the pimps, but also hold the johns."

Catherine Cortez Masto's bill would make it easier for law enforcement to go after everyone involved with sex trafficking.

She held a summit at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Wednesday to build support for it.

One mother who attended the conference said her daughter started selling her body for sex two years ago because of low self-esteem.

"During her senior year at Centennial High School, our daughter was systematically manipulated and stolen from my family," says Andrea Swanson.

Masto's bill has the support of dozens of groups, law-enforcement law-makers, and even nationwide non-profits.

She plans to introduce it when the next legislative session convenes early next month.
