Area Sportsbooks Filling Up for NFL Playoffs

Posted: Updated:

Week One of the NFL playoffs finished up last weekend but the action continues this Saturday and Sunday.

And for sportsbooks in the area -- it's one of the busiest times of year.

A lot of people pile into sportsbooks when the playoffs roll around. And with the San Francisco 49ers -- led by former Wolf Pack Star Colin Kaepernick playing this Saturday, business is booming even more.

"They have a large local following of course, but a lot of people will be coming up here from california because they can't bet sports in the casinos over there. So they have to come here if they want to bet on the football playoffs," says Terry Cox.

The director of the sportsbook at the Peppermill says this year's playoffs are already bringing in folks from all over.

The hotel is sold out this weekend and workers are opening another room just so folks have a place to watch the games outside of the sportsbook.

Along with the 49ers-Packers game this Saturday, the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks are also receiving a lot of attention.

People placing bets in the sportsbook say it's going to fill up fast by the time Saturday rolls around.

"We haven't really seen the large money come yet, but it will come. It will come probably in the next 48 hours or so," says Joe Genova of Reno.

The sportsbook says overall -- the last year has been great because not only are the 49ers in the playoffs -- but so were the Oakland A's and San Francisco Giants and even the Golden State Warriors in the NBA are competitive right now.
