Posted: Updated:

Sparks Police have arrested one man as they investigate several vehicle robberies and burglaries that happened early Sunday morning.

Police arrested 19-year-old Manaloa Tonata of Sparks, after he admitted to being involved in a vehicle burglary. He has been charged with theft, burglary and possession stolen property.

Police believe he stole an SUV from Rancho Mirage Drive Sunday morning.

That is just one crime that Sparks Police are investigating at this time.

A robbery happened around 5:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of Express Street and Sabatino Drive, near Sparks Boulevard. Police say a 21-year old Sparks resident was pulled out of his vehicle by two males. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim before taking his vehicle, a silver Suzuki Sidekick. The victim was not injured.

The suspects were described as two Pacific Islander males. Both were wearing gray or white sweaters. The first suspect was described as 17 to 18-years old, while the other was described as being 18 to 19-years old.

Police say before the incident, the suspects were believed to be in a 1977 Oldsmobile that was stolen from Howard and Rosemary drives at an unknown time. That vehicle was later found on the 1100 block of H Street. Police say when that vehicle was recovered, the keys to a Suburu that was stolen in Reno was found. That Suburu was later found the in the area of the 2500 block of Rosemary Drive.

Around 6:30 a.m., a dark-colored Dodge Durango was stolen from the 1100 block of Rancho Mirage Drive. There were also two other vehicle burglaries around the same location since that time.

About 20 minutes later, security guards at the Legends at Sparks Marina reported that a dark-colored SUV that resembled a Durango appeared to be chasing or racing with a Suzuki Sidekick. Police say the Suzuki struck a curb and became disabled in the area of East Lincoln Way and Scheels Drive. The vehicle was identified as the one that was stolen from Express and Sabatino.

Police say around 10 a.m., the stolen Dodge Durango was found parked in an apartment complex on 1100 15th Street. Police made contact with people inside an apartment who allowed officers to enter, but denied permission for them to search. After seeing specific property from the Durango in plain view inside the apartment, police obtained a search warrant and searched the apartment. They also found property from one of the burglaries on Rancho Mirage in the Durango. The people inside the apartment at that time were juveniles. Police say several of them were found to have been drinking and were taken into custody.

Police say the investigation continues. If you have any information, you're being asked to call Sparks Police at (775) 353-2225 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900. You can also text your tip to 847-411.

Police are also asking residents in the Rancho Mirage area to contact them if their car has been broken into.
