All Reno Radio Blood Drive Wraps Up

Posted: Updated:

Friday was day two of the 27th Annual All Reno Radio Blood Drive at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa.

JJ Christy from KBUll 98.1 was just one of dozens of radio talk show hosts and DJs who were doing their best to get people to come give the gift of life.

"We watch too much TV programming because you think, 'oh well, maybe this will help with surgery and stuff like that.' Actually, the blood is broken down into plasma and platelets for cancer patients, burn patients and yes, surgery, too.

Those who became blood donors, received cookies, juice, some free gelato and even a massage. We asked some donors why they give every year.

"I think sometimes it's the emails, like pictures of kids and adults that have benefited from blood donation and it just hits the heart," said Sarah Morgan from Reno.

Peter Johnson said it has become a tradition for him to give blood to help others.

"It's just a donation I decided to do since the 70's. It doesn't cost anything. I like to come in and do it."

If you weren't able to give blood at the All Reno Radio Blood Drive, United Blood Services will have a mobile donation center at the Victorian RV Park in Sparks next Saturday, January 12th, from 10am until 2pm. So mark your calendar for that.
