Man Surrenders to Police After Standoff Near Brinkby Ave.

Posted: Updated:

Police say a robbery suspect surrendered after a brief standoff in the area of Lymberry and Brinkby Avenue.

Police say they were called to the Red Hut Cafe on Lakeside Drive just before 9:42am Thursday on the report of an armed robbery with a shotgun.

Shortly after arriving on scene, officers found a man matching the description of the suspect, who had ran to a neighboring apartment complex.

Law enforcement including SWAT and Washoe County Sheriff's deputies set up a perimeter around the enclosed patio where 22-year-old Desmond Hayes eventually peacefully surrendered.

They say he doesn't live at the apartment where he ran to and did not enter the building.

Police also say the gun and money was found with Hayes.

After further investigation, police say Hayes is linked to the armed robbery of the Walgreen's, located at 3495 S. Virginia Street, which occurred on December 30, 2012.

He's charged with armed robbery, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a short barreled shotgun and burglary.
