The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office rescued an injured back country skier Wednesday afternoon.
Deputies say the 36-year old South Lake Tahoe man was skiing with his dog in the Echo Peak area, south of Fallen Leaf Lake, when he injured his right knee and was unable to move.
Deputies received help from the California Highway Patrol Air Operations Unit. The helicopter soon found the man and his dog at 8,400 feet elevation, but was unable to land due to the remote location, steep terrain, deep snow and high avalanche conditions.
Crews then lowered officers to the man and his dog's location. They were then hoisted into the helicopter and were flown off the mountain to safety.
Their conditions are unknown at this time.
