2 Dozen Misdemeanor Arrests During Reno New Year's

Posted: Updated:

Reno police say they made about two dozen misdemeanor arrests while thousands rung in the New Year in northern Nevada.

Authorities say they arrested 21 people on misdemeanors, two for gross misdemeanors, and issued one misdemeanor citation during celebrations late Monday and early Tuesday.

They also report detaining five people in protective custody.

Officials say eight people were arrested during the night on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Thousands of people had gathered on North Virginia Street to count down to 2013. Officials from the Reno Police Department joined others from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Public Safety to keep the celebration under control.   (AP)
