Last week, we aired my mom's story about her battle with breast cancer. If you missed it, you can view it from the home page of our web site, www.ktvn.com
Because of this story, every hospital in our area, plus Reno Diagnostic Center, donated free mammograms or something else to help other women beat breast cancer. This week, we are highlighting Saint Mary's.
They wanted to introduce Laurie Schirling. She's the breast nurse navigator. She's the one phone call people should make once a lump is found. She guides patients through the biopsy, the treatment options and finally creates a care plan for after treatment. She also provides information on alternative treatments like acupuncture, support groups and helping the entire family deal with the diagnosis. And it's all for free. "Breast cancer is very confusing Basque there are so many different types of breast cancer. It's not all one disease so there are different treatment options, depending on where the tumor is and what type of disease they have. I hope them through looking through the options. Some people get chemotherapy, some people get radiation, some get surgery. It just depends on the situation."
Because of my mom's story, Saint Mary's is offering 75 dollar mammograms until January 31st. They are also offering two 6 month cancer rehab/medical exercise memberships at their gym. To enter the drawing, stop by their fitness center located at 645 North Arlington Avenue or email amanda at email@example.com Submissions must be sent by December 31st and the two winners will be contacted that same week.Written By Wendy Damonte
