Authorities say a man has died after being hit by a train west of Reno near Boomtown on Monday afternoon.
Paramedics responded to the accident just before 4pm near Garson Road. Washoe County deputies say a man was walking with a dog when the dog suddenly ran onto the tracks, but when the man tried to get him off the tracks, he fell down and couldn't stand up in time. The train blew its horn, but couldn't stop in time.
Deputies say the man was in his 50's, but that's all they will say. The victim was with another person when he died.
No one aboard the train was hurt. More than 250 passengers were on the train when the accident.
