The State Bureau of Consumer Protection and NV Energy are now proposing a compromise for the smart meter opt-out program.
Originally, customers wishing to opt-out of the new meter to stick with the old, analog meter would have had to pay $108, plus, another $8 each month.
Under the new agreement the initial fee will be cut down to $53.
The smart meters transmit data directly to NV Energy, but some worry they pose health risks and may invade privacy.
NV Energy has already installed 1.3 million smart meters statewide.
