Someone 2 Know: Chance Geving

Posted: Updated:

For 25 years, Chance Geving has been giving orders at the gym. "Down slow now; good, let's run," he encourages his clients. The personal trainer leads group fitness out of Body Fuel Fitness gym in Sparks. While his clients are used to hearing him shout out exercises, there is something most of them have not heard – his singing voice. "It's kind of been a shock for everybody," Chance says with a smile.

Chance helped write a song that is getting quite a bit of attention on YouTube right now. It is called Santa Gonna Be Happy and it was inspired by a story his mother, Kathy Rasley used to tell him as a child. "She used to tell me that elves would peak in the windows, watching us to make sure we'd be good for Christmas."

Kathy started writing the song a few years ago with Chance's help. Chance then called on producer, Tom Gordon of Imirage Sound Lab and local musician, Erika Paul to bring the score to life. "It's actually beyond my expectations. I thought it was going to be kind of cute. It ended up being rock meets jazz!"

Now Chance is hoping the song goes viral; not just for himself, but for all the less fortunate in our community. Every time someone downloads Santa Gonna Be Happy on iTunes, a portion of the sale will go straight to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. He decided to donate a portion to charity because the economy has hurt many people in our area. "A lot of people I know have lost jobs. They hated having to use the food bank, but they had to. I've come close."

The catchy tune is Chance's way to give. He says he might not have a lot of extra cash to donate, but he can share his talent. So, whether it's raising money or just putting a smile on your face, he hopes you will stop this holiday season for a listen. "It's catchy! It makes you want to dance. I listen to it way too much!"
