Volunteer Seniors Crochet Blankets for the Needy

Posted: Updated:

A City of Reno volunteer group, known as the Cro-Knits, are crocheting blankets and scarves for local charity. The Cro-Knits are comprised of senior citizens who meet twice a month at the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center. Since 2006 the Cro-Knits have provided blankets for Casa De Vista, the Family Shelter, and the homeless population throughout the Reno-Sparks area. Within its first year, the Cro-Knits gave away approximately 60 items. This year, they are expected to give away 261 blankets and afghans, along with approximately 225 hats and scarves. Various groups and individuals throughout Truckee Meadows donate the yarn and supplies used.

On December 16 the Cro-Knits provided personalized "lapghan" blankets for theKid's Kottage Christmas party. Thursday, December 20, the Cro-Knits will be donating blankets to the Family Shelter. The donation will take place at the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center in the Gold Hill room at 10 a.m.

The Cro-Knits are always accepting donations of yarn, preferably 8 oz. skein of worsted weight yarn and ‘H' aluminum crochet hooks. For more information, please call 334-2262.
