After more than 20 years in what was meant to be a temporary courthouse on Greenbrae Drive, the Sparks Justice Court will be moving into a new facility on Prater Way in Sparks at the end of the month.

During the move, the court will be closed for all public business from Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, through Friday, Jan. 4, 2013. Sparks Justice Court will be closed to the public from noon Friday, Dec. 28 until Monday, Jan. 7 at 8 a.m.

"After the old courthouse on B Street was condemned 20 years ago, we moved into temporary quarters in the Greenbrae Shopping Center," said Sparks Justice of the Peace Kevin Higgins. "The plan at that time was to design and build a new courthouse in a few years. While it took a bit longer than anticipated, we are very excited to move into a building that will be safe and secure and have enough room to serve the public."

During the relocation, the Court's phone system will be out of service for at least a few days in order to move and install all of the equipment. Computers will also be out of service until the file servers are moved.

"We have so many reasons to be thrilled about moving into a new courthouse," said Sparks Justice of the Peace Susan Deriso. "We are more than doubling the size of the courthouse, but will actually be paying less in rent than we do now. With the public in mind, we'll be located next to the Sparks Police Department, on a bus line, and with access to the freeway. We can't wait to move."

During the week of Dec. 31, 2012, certain emergency matters will be handled at the Reno Justice Court. Applications for protective orders and clearance of warrants can be made at the Reno Justice Court, 1 South Sierra Street, Reno, Nevada. No warrants for failing to comply or appear will be issued the week the Court is closed. Payments can be mailed to the old address, 630 Greenbrae Drive, Sparks, Nevada 89431, but drop box payments must be taken over to the new location.

All phone, fax numbers and email addresses will remain the same. Residents may call the court's main telephone number during the closure, (775) 353-7600, for further information on how to handle emergency matters. Other than those emergencies, regular court business will not be conducted that week.

Sparks Justice Court will re-open to the public on, Monday, Jan. 7, at 8 a.m. in the new location at the corner of Prater Way and Lillard Way, just west of the Sparks Police Department, at:
Sparks Justice Court
1675 East Prater Way
Suite 107
Sparks, Nevada 89434-8964
