Several Businesses Fail Alcohol Compliance Check During Pub Crawl

Posted: Updated:

55 bars and casinos were checked to see if they were following proper procedures during an undercover alcohol compliance check Saturday night.

It was conducted by the regional Street Enforcement Team during the annual Santa Pub Crawl in downtown Reno.

The Focus of the operation was to target bars around the downtown Reno area and to increase the awareness of possible underage drinking inside those bars.

Detectives used underaged decoys to go into the 55 businesses to try to buy alcoholic beverages. Of those, six businesses were cited:

1. Reno Pizza – 26 W. 2nd Street, Reno, NV
Sales / Furnishing alcohol to a minor
2. Five Star – 132 West Street, Reno, NV
Sales / Furnishing alcohol to a minor
3. Studio on 4th – 432 E. 4th  Street, Reno, NV
Sales / Furnishing alcohol to a minor
Doorman Allowing minor in bar/liquor establishment
4. Cal Neva – 38 E. 2nd  Street, Reno, NV
Sales / Furnishing alcohol to a minor
5. El Cortez – 235 W. 2nd Street, Reno, NV
Sales / Furnishing alcohol to a minor
6.Circus Circus – 500 N. Sierra Street, Reno, NV
Sales / Furnishing alcohol to a minor

Police say the operation resulted in an 91 percent compliance rate.

They say detectives also checked to see if bartenders were in compliance with the state of Nevada's Alcohol Awareness Beverage program and had their valid alcohol education card with them. Out of the 55 businesses that were checked, police say four bartenders did not possess their alcohol education cards.

Police say if anyone has information on a business selling or furnishing alcohol to minors, they're being asked to call the Street Enforcement Team at 334-3065, or Secret Witness at 322-4900. You can text your tip to 847-411.
