Salvation Army Christmas Toys & Turkeys Distribution Begins Monday

Posted: Updated:

The Salvation Army Christmas Toys & Turkeys Distribution Begins a day early - Monday, December 17 to pre-registered families. We had to add an additional day of appointments due to an increase in the number of families by 10%.

The Salvation Army, in partnership with Toys For Tots, will be distributing toys to pre-registered families the week of December 17.  We project assisting 3,200 families with approximately10,500 children ages 0 - 17. Each of the pre-registered families received an appointment day/time and 50 families are scheduled to go through the toy shop every half hour from 9 am to 11:30 am and 1 pm to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Each family will  "shop" (pick out) the toys for their children and they receive a turkey for their holiday meal.  About 40 volunteers work during each of the half day shifts - with about 300 total volunteers involved.

The Salvation Army Christmas Center is located at 115 E. Moana Lane in an old furniture store. Donations of new, unwrapped toys/gifts, and monetary donations, are being accepted at this location 7 days a week from 9 am to 6 pm through December 23rd.  Or, at the main office at 1931 Sutro St., Reno, NV 89512. Call 775-688-4555 to make a donation by credit card or to volunteer.

We especially have a need for gifts for more 10-12 year old girls gifts. Craft Kits, school back-packs, teen fashion accessories, Music players/electronics, hoodie sweatshirts or warm jackets are all favorite choices.
