The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is investigating a fatal accident early Saturday morning.

Police say it happened around 1:35 a.m. at the intersection of Pioneer Trail at Ski Run Boulevard. They say a Honda Accord, driven by 22-year old Roberto Olazaba T-boned a GMC Yukon.

Police say three people were taken to Barton Memorial Hospital for treatment. William Olazaba was a passenger in the Honda and later died from his injuries at the hospital. Roberto Olazaba was admitted for observation, while the passenger from the GMC was treated and released. The driver of the GMC reportedly received minor injuries. Police say alcohol is suspected as being a contributing factor in the crash.

Police say the crash caused a temporary power outage in the Ski Run neighborhood because one of the vehicles struck the power converter box at that intersection. Power was later restored for all Liberty Power Company customers in the area.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is requested to contact Officer John Speath at the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, (530) 542-6100.
