A conezone update tonight as officials working on a project that will link Sparks to south Reno broke ground today.
The Regional Transportation Commission broke ground on Phase 1 of the SouthEast Connector project on Friday morning.
The ceremony was held in the parking lot directly across from the alamo travel center on Greg Street in Sparks.
Officials say the project addresses long-term transportation needs to improve the mobility of people, goods and services throughout the area.
"The SouthEast connector is a multi-level project including a bike and ped path, landscape restoration and of course, the bridge over the Truckee River," says Lee Gibson.
That bridge is a big part of Phase one. Construction is scheduled to begin next month.
Once the entire project is finished, the 5.5 miles of the six-lane road will tie Sparks Boulevard to Geiger Grade eliminating congestion at the Spaghetti Bowl.
