Sparks Police to Increase Patrols for Holiday Season
The City of Sparks Police Department will have extra patrols throughout the city looking for DUI or Impaired Drivers now through the New Year. Alcohol continues to be a factor in all of the fatal traffic accidents that have occurred in the City of Sparks this year. In 2010, more than 10,000 people died in alcohol-impaired driving accidents - one every 51 minutes. Alcohol-impaired motor vehicle accidents cost more than an estimated $37 billion a year.
The dates of the extra patrols coincide with the Santa Crawl in downtown Reno, Christmas Eve, and New Years Eve. If you are planning to attend the Santa Crawl event, please designate a sober driver or bring the proper resources to take a taxi home. Make sure that in your gatherings with your family and friends this holiday season that you have, or provide a safe ride home for yourself, your family, and your friends. Drive sober or get a ride with someone who is!
