Grace Church in Reno broke ground Wednesday on a new worship center that will create dozens of jobs locally.
About 50 to 75 full-time construction workers will help build the new center on Robb Drive.
The church says they wanted to use local workers to inspire hope in the community.@
"I just talked to one guy who's working on this job, he's a single dad father of three whose been out of work for two years. He has a job now because of this project and that's amazing," says Karen Durst of Grace Church.
The construction company building the new church, Sierra Builders of Nevada, says all the construction materials will also be bought locally if possible.
"It's really important especially right now with the depressed economy and state the construction industry in northern Nevada is in and we're very fortunate to have this project and keep it local," says Bob Cotter.
It should be finished by fall of next year.
