The Salvation Army No Longer Accepting Angel Tree Applications

Posted: Updated:

The Salvation Army says it's no longer accepting applications for the Angel Tree program for Reno and Carson City.

The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program has been in operation for more than 40 years.

There are still other ways you can help area children this holiday season.

We here at Channel 2 News are teaming up with the The Salvation Army to collect toys for children this Christmas through the Toys for Tots program.

You go shopping for a child and bring the new toy to one of the 100 locations in the Reno-Sparks area. The U.S. Marine Corps Reserves collect the toys and then distribute them to children in need.

You can also bowl with elves Friday night inside the National Bowling Stadium from 6pm-11pm.

For $15/person, you get two games of bowling and shoe rental at the National Bowling Stadium (which is usually closed to the public).

  • If you bring a new unwrapped toy, the cost is $5/person
  • If you bring a new, unwrapped toy AND you wear a costume or ugly Christmas sweater, the cost is just $4/person

All proceeds go to Toys for Tots.

Note: Toys must have a $8-$10 value.

On Saturday, Americom Radio Camp Christmas at Reno Toyota will collect toys all day. You can also take new toys to any Reno & Sparks Walmarts all day.

Last year, 35,000 toys were donated to more than 8,200 kids around Washoe County.

They don't want things like stuffed animals that can collect dust and allergens that could affect the kids' health.
